"Take Heed That Ye Be Not Deceived" is a book written & published by Richard I. Winwood. It contains a revealing look at anti-morman literature, its authors, and their motives.
This book was the result of a new convert's journey to understand the adversity he was met with after joining the Morman Church.
Richard is a native of Portland, Oregon, where he was a member of a large Protestant church from his youth. In 1971, missioinaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints contacted and taught him and his wife Judy. They joined the church, and since his conversion Richard has served in many church positions, mostly as a lay leader and teacher. He has also served as a mission president for ther Church of Jesus Christ in the Canada Halifax Mission in Nova Scotia and the Temple Square Mission in Salt Lake City. Prior to his service as a mission president, Richard had a successful business career.

Primary Program & Testimony Meeting
Today I have felt especially grateful and blessed.
I've been in my new ward for about 14 months now & last week was the first time that I found myself walking to the pulpit on Fast Sunday. It didn't take any convincing. From the moment I sat down, my feet knew they intended to find their way to the front of the meeting.
Though Dan was not present to hear my testimony, I hope he knows & shares some of my sentiment about the importance of this gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as the importance of family and its role in aiding us in a happy & successful journey through this life. I am confident that he knows of the passion i have for my beliefs & convictions.
Although in marriage, we may often approach things differently and bring our own, different convictions & "religion" into marriage. Sometimes understanding each other doesn't come naturally. We may experience or offer support, rejection & everything else in between in relating to our spouse. I will say that i respect my husband and appreciate him for his unique qualities & gifts and that I am grateful for him as well as for our girls and extended families.
And I have FELT so much in this regard today.
We can really FEEL knowledge as a gift through the Holy Ghost. I am grateful for this gift. It gives me all the confidence i need to navigate my course in a day, each one in my life.
Today was the Primary Program. I've heard at least a couple comments that this is the best meeting of the year, every time. Is this not what our religion is about? Our children? Passing to our children this priceless gift of love & experience. The values & knowledge which we as parents have come to hold dear in our hearts!
I am feeling so grateful to have these two little girls to love & raise each day. As well as to have them loving & challenging me each day.
The Program songs, stories & scriptures were told by the children and each child was able to participate. I was sitting on the stand with my CTR 7/8 Class, just left of center behind the pulpit, which gave me the funnest view of parents. Watching their faces as the kids spoke was so great! Such proud faces, grinning ear to ear. The kids were cute & excited, some nervous wanting to shine for all the mom's & dads.
The Primary Presidency has the children create the pictures for the cover of the Sacrament meeting programs, which i love. Such a great idea, quite impactful. They colored self-portraits & signed their names. At the end of the meeting Bishop Brough sang I Am A Child of God with the children. ...After the meeting, 'opening exercises' for primary was a bit different. The chairs were put away & the leaders had provided treats for the kids (little donuts & milk).
Bishop Brough let the kids line up to each take a turn cutting up his tie! That was a new one! How can you not love our bishop?! Then the kids sat around in a big circle on the floor and played a memory game w big footprints which had sets of matching primary song names on the backs. When someone made a match, we all sang the song. When the songs ran out, the leaders each got to pick a favorite primary song for all to sing.
I am grateful that Alexa has had these good & profitable learning experiences & I hope she will continue to build on them. She is a sweetheart. Ashlyn will be anxiously awaiting her turn next primary program as she will graduate from Nursery to Sunbeams in January. I can't wait to see if she is as shy about the opportunity as I think she might be once it finally presents itself, or not!?
As I mentioned in Testimony Meeting last week, I am not only enjoying my eight, CTR 7/8 year-old girls immensely, but also the CTR 8 lessons which are centered around Christ & his life, resurrection, and basic teachings including baptism, the holy ghost, forgiveness, kindness, service obedience, etc. Additionally, I have enjoyed reading through the Articles of Faith which the girls are memorizing. the Details? ...God wants me to CrEaTe!
Written after listening to President Utedorf's talk at the General Womens Broadcast: I wasn't sure where i wanted to leave my thoughts entitled "the Details": http://truthchasing.blogspot.com/2008/10/details.html
I Believe.
I believe in God, in prophesy, in two very real sources of power.
Satan who is a mimic of righteousness & Jesus Christ who holds the power of god. I believe that Christ was sent to the earth as God's only begotten of the flesh. I believe he chose to atone for the sins of men that we may return to live in the presence of god one day. I believe that God's purpose for man is to glorify him. I believe in a Godhead consisting of God the Father, his son Jesus Christ (being separate men with perfect bodies of flesh & bone), and in the Holy Ghost (a separate personage of spirit, without a body, whos function & purpose is to visit God's children on earth, bringing to them a brightness of hope & light). I believe that pre-requisite to receiving the influence of this Holy Ghost, we must commited to follow Jesus, be baptized into his church, live the commandents given us by he & his father. I believe God wants to bless us and that receiving the Holy Ghost to guide our lives, shows gratitude to him. I believe that by doing this, we show gratitude for what might possibly be the greatest gift we are given in this life, aside from the opportunity & chance itself, to gain mortal bodies & become as we wish in this earthly experience. I believe the Holy Ghost is a source of great joy to the individual, regardless of their circumstance. I believe that we can know of the truthfullness of Christ's Gospel & Church as well as any principle of truth we seek to understand. I believe the Holy Ghost is available to help us in this purpose and should be received at the age or time of personal accountibilty, by the proper authority, by a man holding the Priesthood Power, or power to act in God's name. I also believe that all men are entitled to the light of christ and have the ability to determine right from wrong. I believe that God hears & answers prayers. I believe god leads us, through the example of his son Jesus Christ, by his gospel & his teachings. I believe that Christ set up a church on this earth in ancient times which was lost in its wholeness & completeness from the earth for a period of time called the Dark Ages following the crucifition, death, of Christ & death of his apostles. I believe Christ's gospel has since been restored to the earth in recent times by a young man named Joseph Smith, who was chosen by god to carry this burden. I believe god has given us words & instruction/guidance passed down through prophets of old by way of Scripture, in which we can also find answers to prayers. I believe that god speaks to us through modern-day prophets which we may consider modern-day revelation. I believe in God's power of healing & other such gifts given available through the Priesthood and also by our faith. I believe that we as children of God on this earth, have divine and infinite worth. I believe that we as individuals can include God in our existance and that WE are esentially HIS work & glory, we are ALL are of infinite value. I believe that God is always available to us as we sacrefice our pride & sin in order to become humble & contrite in spirit before him. I believe that God uses others to answer our prayers and that as we strive to follow Christ's example by serving each other & God, we will be richly rewarded for our sacrefice in this life & in life "to come". I believe my spirit will go on once my body has failed. I believe that christ has given us tools by which we can have happy & sucessful experience throughout our whole lives on this planet. I believe that as we desire to serve god, we are called to his work. I believe that i am reponsible for the life i lead in this life as well as the influence i cause. I believe that I am, and will be held accountable for what I do each day and will someday stand in judgement before my maker. I believe it's up to me to develop a relationship with god, whom is all-knowing, ever-loving, approachable and just. I pray i can live a long, healthful life, full of the joy, experience & growth which i consider, a tremendous opportunity to come here to earth and gain. I pray that i can & will earn forgivness from those i wrong. That i may develop, deserve & sustain the kind of relationships worth having for eternities. I pray that i will desire & have the ability to treat God's children with the true kindness, love, respect & long-suffering and qualities that Christ has for me. I pray that I will have the strength & tenacity to work long & hard, in order to perfect my weakness & sin. That i will be obtain & achieve a salvation deserving of peace. I have a long list of prayers. Order-up!
